2、icalapproachusedtodesignanddevelopthepowerplantfortheHondaInsight,anewmotorassisthybridvehiclewithanoveralldevelopmentobjectiveofjusthalfthefuelconsumptionofthecurrentCivicoverawiderangeofdrivingconditions.Fuelconsumptionof35km/L(Japanese10-15mode),and3.4L/100km(
3、98/69/EC)wasrealized.Toachievethis,anewIntegratedMotorAssist(IMA)hybridpowerplantsystemwasdeveloped,incorporatingmanynewtechnologiesforpackagingandintegratingthemotorassistsystemandforimprovingenginethermalefficiency.Thiswasdevelopedincombinationwithanewlightweig
4、htaluminumbodywithlowaerodynamicresistance.Environmentalperformancegoalsalsoincludedthesimultaneousachievementoflowemissions(halftheJapaneseyear2000standards,andhalftheEU2000standards),highefficiency,andrecyclability.Fullconsiderationwasalsogiventokeyconsumerattr
5、ibutes,includingcrashsafetyperformance,handling,anddrivingperformance.1.INTRODUCTIONToreducetheautomobile’simpactonsocietyandtheenvironmentrequiresthatitbeincreasinglycleanerandmoreenergyefficient.Theissuesofenergyconservation,ambientairquality,andreductioninCO2e
6、missionsareincreasingraisedasglobalenvironmentalconcerns.Onesolutionfordealingwiththeseissuesisthehybridautomobile.HondahasdevelopedandintroducedtoseveralmajormarketsworldwidetheInsight,anewgenerationofvehicledesign.TheInsightcombinesahybridpowertrainwithadvanced
7、bodytechnologyfeaturestomeetanoverallgoalofachievingthehighestfueleconomypractical.Thehybridpowertrainisamotorassistparallelconfiguration,termedIMAfor‘IntegratedMotorAssist’.ThispowertraincombinesahighlyefficientelectricmotorwithanewsmalldisplacementVTECengine,al
