3、urativelinguisticexpressionsoutofnormallanguagesystems.Fortunately,withthereflectionscarriedoutbyresearchersinvariousdisciplines,metaphorbeginstogetitsrebirthasaresultofitsconnectionwiththought.ThepublicationofLakoffandJohnson‟sseminalbookMetaphorsWeLiveByin1980m
4、arkedthebeginningofthisnewtheory---cognitivemetaphor.Thecentralideaofthenewtheoryisthatmetaphorispervasiveinourdailylifeanditisubiquitousinlanguageandthought.Thereforemetaphorshouldbeafigureofthought,whoseconceptualsystemsarestructuredbymetaphorplusotherkindsofim
5、aginativestructures;metaphorinnatureisaperceptualandconceptualizingtool,bywhichhumanbeingsunderstandthesurroundingworld.Moreover,metaphorservesasanefficientsourcefromwhichnewmeaningsandnewunderstandingariseifconstructedfromanewperspective.Inaword,metaphoriscognit
6、iveratherthanlinguistic.Metaphorincognitivelinguisticsactuallyreferstoconceptualmetaphor,whichisdifferentfrombutrelatedtolinguisticmetaphororlinguisticmetaphoricalexpression.Conceptualmetaphorallowsustocomprehendarelativelyabstractconceptbyvirtueofamoreconcreteco
