4、physicalandthesupernaturalorOversoulashelatercalledit.OnhisreturntoBostonEmersonconcentratedonlecturingratherthanpreaching,andlecturessuchasThePhilosophyofHistorywouldformthefoundationoffuturewritings.HesettledinConcordin1835wherehebecamefriendswithotherfiguresinthetranscendentalmovementsu
5、chasThoreauandHawthorneandbeganwritingforandeditingTheDial.AfterhissecondEssays,Emerson'swritingbegantoshowlessconfidenceintheindividual.HereturnedtoEuropein1847andrenewedhisfriendshipwithCarlyle,withwhomhehadkeptintouchbyletter,andmetotherEuropeanthinkersandwriters.Duringhislastyearshebec
