2、emesinItiswellknownthattheperformanceofaTCPflowisaf-thepresenceofdelayedcongestionfeedbackfromthenet-fectedbyitsround-triptime(RTT),i.e.,theelapsedtimework.ThesestudiesconcludethatTCPandTCP-likecon-betweentheinstantapacketisreleasedbythesourcetotrolmechanismsarestab

3、lesolongastheTCPandAQMpa-theinstantthecorrespondingackisreceivedbythesource.rametersareinverselyproportionaltoRTT.Morerecently,ThedistributionofRTTscandramaticallyaffectnotonlytherehasbeenworkonprotocolssuchasXCPwhichoutper-thedataratesrealizedbyindividualflowssharin

4、galinkformTCPeveninhighbandwidth-delayproductcases[6].butalsotheutilizationofInternetlinks.InthispaperwepresentacomprehensivestudyoftheRTTdistributionforWithfluidmodels,oneanalyzesstabilitybyassumingflowsTCPtrafficintheInternet.areofinfiniteduration.Therationaleforthisa

5、ssumptionisthenowacceptedfactthatmostbytesarecarriedinlargeBecauseaccesstomeasurementpointsissolimited,onetyp-flows,aconsequenceoffile-sizedistributionsthatexhibitaicallyhasaccesstoanodethatmaybeneitherthesourcenorlarge(sometimesinfiniteinheavy-tailedmodels)variance.t

6、hedestinationofmostoftheTCPflowspassingthroughHowever,whatmattersforcontrollabilityisnottheflowit.Thus,ourprimarychallengeistoinfertheRTTdis-sizebutflowduration,whichmustbelongenoughtoallowtributionbylookingattrafficinonlyonedirection(eitherthesourcetoobtainsufficientfeed

7、backfromthenetwork.source-to-destinationordestination-to-source,butnotal-SincetheRTT,asreflectedbythearrivaloftheackbackwaysbothsincetheack(reverse)pathmaydifferfromthetothesource,representsthefeedbacksignal,theimportantdata(forward)path).Wepresentthreedifferentmethod

8、sofparametertomodelisthenumberofRTTsratherthantheestimatingRTTandshowthatallthreemethodsprovideaabsolutesizeordurationoftheflow.Inotherwords,ifcon
