6、oordinationofeconomicactivities.Thisdecisionproblem,generallyreferredtoas"thestandardizationproblem",mainlyresultsfrominterdependenciesduetopositivenetworkeffects.Theproblemhastobeanalyzeddifferentlyincentralizedanddecentralizednetworks.Therefore,wede-velopedsep
7、aratemodelsforeachofthesecoordinationformswhichillustratetheadvantagesanddisadvantagesofusingstandards.Webasedtheeconomicparametersofthemodelsandthediscus-sionofitsimplicationsonempiricalresearch.Togaininformationabouttheuseofsoftwarestandardsinenterprises,wecon
8、ductedacomprehensiveempiricalsurvey,bothinGermanyandNorthAmerica.ItfocusesonthecorporateadoptionanduseofvariousITstandards,includingInternetandelectroniccommercestandards,businesssoftwareandEDI.Approachingageneralframeworkforanalyzingthestandardizationproblemwec
