2、rtswithapreliminarysizingmethod.ThedesignsequenceisillustratedwitharedesignstudyoftheATR72turbopropaircraft.TherequirementsfortheredesignaircraftarethoseoftheATR72.TheATR72servesalsoasthereferenceduringtheredesign.ThePreliminarysizingmethodwasavailable(attheuniversity)onlyf

3、orjet-poweredaircraft.Thereforethemethodwasadaptedtoworkalsowithpropellerdrivenaircrafts.Thesizingmethodensuresthatallrequirementsaremet:take-offandlandingfieldlength,2ndsegmentandmissedapproachgradientsaswellascruiseMachnumber.Thesizingmethodyieldsthebest(low)power/weightr

4、atioandthebestwingloading.Theredesignprocesscoversalltheaircraftcomponents:fuselage,wing,empennageandlandinggear.Theaircraftdesignsequencedefinesthecabinlayout,thewingparameters,thetypeofhighliftsystem,theconfigurationandsurfaceoftheempennage.Amassdistributionanalysisismade

5、,thepositionoftheCGiscalculatedandthewingpositiondetermined.FinallytheDirectOperatingCosts(DOC)arecalculated.DOCsarecalculatedapplyingthemethodfromtheAssociationofEuropeanAirlines(AEA).TheDOCsserveforanaircraftevaluation.Inordertomeetrequirements,theredesignedATR72hadtobesl

6、ightlymodifiedcomparedtotheoriginalATR.E.g.theredesignedhighliftsystemshowsaddedslats.Ingeneral,theresultingparametersoftheredesignedaircraftcameoutsimilarwiththeoriginalATR72.SincedataoftheoriginalATR72isnotcompletelyavailableinpublic,oneofthechallengeswastodiscoverthedriv
