2、heperiodJune1,2003–December31,2006.ThegoalofthissupportasspecifiedintheproposaldatedApril4,2003wastoengageschools,postsecondaryinstitutions,andcommunitieswithintheInitiativeandenhance,assess,andderivetoolsfromtheirefforts.JFFhassubmittedpreviouslytwoprogressreports(September2004andOctober2005)
3、.Thisfinalreportsummarizestheimpactofprojectactivitiesoverthefundingperiod.ProjectdocumentationandmaterialsdevelopedsincesubmissionofthelastprogressreportareincludedintheAttachments.Earlycollegehighschoolsaresmallschoolsthatblendhighschoolandcollegeinarigorousyetsupportiveprogram,compressingth
4、etimeittakestocompleteahighschooldiplomaandthefirsttwoyearsofcollege.TheTheoryofChangeofearlycollegeisbasedontheprinciplethatacademicrigorandstudentsupport,combinedwiththeopportunitytosavetimeandmoney,isapowerfulmotivatorforstudentstoworkhardandmeetseriousintellectualchallenges.TheInitiativebe
5、ganwithacaptivating,thoughradical,concept:challengenotremediationwillmakeadifferenceforthoseyoungpeoplewhoareleastlikelytoattendcollegeandforwhomsocietyoftenhaslowaspirationsforacademicachievement.Tomakethispropositionsucceed,secondaryandpostsecondarypartnerswouldneedtorethinktraditionalcurric
6、ulumsequences,findcreativewaystoalignandconnecthighschoolandcollegeexperiences,andprovidetheacademicandsocialsupportsstudentsneedtosucceedinanintensiveearlycollegeprogramofstudy.Further,earlycollegesdemonstratehowintermediaryorganizationsmayforgestrongpartnershipsbetweenschooldistricts,highsch
7、ools,postsecondaryinstitutions,communityorganizations,businesses,andparents.WiththesupportoftheW.K.KelloggFoundation,4intermediaryorganizationshavetesteddiversestrategiesforcommunityengagement:·Useofdatatoengagesecondaryandpostsecondary
