5、esublime.First,Ishallargueagainstthetradi-tional,dialecticalviewofSchopenhauer'stheoryofthesublimethatstressesthecrucialrolethesublimeplaysinbridgingthewidegapbetweenaesthet-icsandethics.Althoughthistraditionalinterpretationisdefinitelyinflu-encedbyNietzsche,Idonotmaintainitisexclu
6、sivelyNietzscheanassuch.Second,Iwouldliketooffersomepointsofcontentionconcerningtheirac-countsofthefeelingofthesublime.Iwilltryandshowthat,althoughNietzsche'saccountoftheApollonianandtheDionysianishighlyinfluencedbySchopenhauer'sanalysisofthesublimefeeling,hisanalysisofDionysianint
7、oxicationcannotbetakentosimplydevelopoutofSchopenhauer'sphilosophy.Moreover,bywayof(anotsoinnocent)example,itisshownthatNietzsche'sphilosophyofmusic-althoughhighlyinfluencedby-cannotasSchopenhauer'seasilybereconciledwithSchopenhauer'stheoryasiscommonlybelieved,duetotheirdifferingac
