2、heeffectsofthoseprocessesonthequalityoftargettexts.Translationproductsresultfromtheinteractionbetweenexpectationsofwhattranslationsshouldbeandthosepracticesandcompetencesbywhichtranslatorsproduceacceptabletranslationswithintemporalandeconomicconstraints.Translationprocessmodelssuggestwha

3、tcognitivedecisionprocessesmightinvolve,andcompetencemodelsoutlinetheexpertknowledgeandcognitivecomponentsassumednecessaryforeffectivetranslationwork.Intranslatortraining,translationprocesseshavetraditionallybeenaccessedandevaluatedthroughstudentannotationsandotherwrittencommentaries.Rec

4、ently,however,otherwaysofincludingexplicitinputonthetranslationprocesshavebeenproposed,includingthetransferofprocessresearchtechniquestounderstandingandevaluatingundergraduatestudents’translationperformance.Thispaperoutlineshowmethodstoinvestigatetranslationprocessescanprofitablybeapplie

5、dtotranslatortraining.ApilotstudyconductedinourMAprogrammeshowsthatmakingtranslationprocessestransparentprovidestrainersandstudentswithvaluableinsightsintotranslationbehaviour.Thistransparencyfacilitatesbetterneeds-orientedcoachingthanproduct-orientedevaluationscan,sincemanyoftheconsider
