3、an'sInte-gratedCompetitionHypoth-esis[24]ispresented.Incontrasttotheattentionmechanismsusedinmostpreviousmachinevisionsystemswhichdriveattentionbasedonthespa-tiallocationhypothesis,themechanismswhichdirectvisualattentioninoursystemareobject-drivenaswellasfeature-driven.Thecompetitiontoga

4、invisualattentionoccursnotonlywithinanobjectbutalsobetweenobjects.Forthispurpose,twonewmecha-nismsintheproposedmodelaredescribedandana-lyzedindetail.Therstmechanismcomputesthevisualsalienceofobjectsandgroupings;thesecondoneimplementsthehierarchicalselectivityofattentionalshifts.Theresult
