2、Corpus-basedInterpretingStudies(CIS)isanewbranchofInterpretingStudiesthathasbeguntotakeshapeinrecentyears,followinginthefootstepsofwhathasalreadybeendoneinTranslationStudiesandincorpuslinguistics.Thepresentpaperbrieflydiscussesthemainmethodologicalissuesto
3、betakenintoaccountwhencreatinganinterpretingcorpus(§1,2.1),reviewsthefirstpioneeringattempts(§2.2,2.3),andconcludesbyoutliningtwoprojectscurrentlybeingdevelopedattheUniversityofBolognaandLUSPIOuniversityinRome(§3.1and3.2,respectively).1.Corpus-basedTransla
4、tionStudies(CTS)andCorpus-basedInterpretingStudies(CIS):thechallengeTheideaofapplyingcorpuslinguisticstechniquesandmethodstoTranslationStudieswasputforwardforthefirsttimebyMonaBaker,whopredictedthat“[t]heavailabilityoflargecorporaofbothoriginalandtranslate
5、dtext,togetherwiththedevelopmentofacorpus-drivenmethodologywillenablescholarstouncoverthenatureoftranslatedtextsasamediatedcommunicativeevent”(Baker,1993:243).ThisintuitionhashadpositiveandfruitfulimplicationsamongstTranslationsscholars(Laviosa,2004),asito
6、penedupnewresearchlinesandmethodologies(Baker,1995)thatcouldbeusedto“studytranslationasavarietyoflanguagebehaviourthatmeritsattentioninitsownright”(Baker,1996:175).Justafewyearslater,the“corpus-basedapproach”couldalreadybeconsideredafully-fledged“newparadi
7、gminTranslationStudies”,astestifiedbythemanycontributionsgatheredinthe1998specialissueoftheTranslationjournalMeta(editedbyLaviosa).ThosecontributionsgaveinsightintosomeofthekeyaspectsofCTS,suchasthepossibletypesofcorporathatcanbecreatedbyusingsourceandtarg
8、ettexts(Baker,1998),theproblemofrepresentativenessofone’sdatasample(Halverson,1998),advantagesanddisadvantagesofparallelcorpora(Malmkjær,1998),thepotentialbenefitsofusingcorporaintranslatortraining(Zanettin,1
