2、processing,IFIP’saimistwo-fold:tosupportinformationprocessingwithinitsmembercountriesandtoencouragetechnologytransfertodevelopingnations.Asitsmissionstatementclearlystates,IFIP’smissionistobetheleading,trulyinternational,apoliticalorganizationwhichencouragesandassistsinthedeve
3、lopment,exploitationandapplicationofinformationtechnologyforthebenefitofallpeople.IFIPisanon-profitmakingorganization,runalmostsolelyby2500volunteers.Itoperatesthroughanumberoftechnicalcommittees,whichorganizeeventsandpublications.IFIP’seventsrangefromaninternationalcongressto
4、localseminars,butthemostimportantare:TheIFIPWorldComputerCongress,heldeverysecondyear;Openconferences;Workingconferences.TheflagshipeventistheIFIPWorldComputerCongress,atwhichbothinvitedandcontributedpapersarepresented.Contributedpapersarerigorouslyrefereedandtherejectionratei
5、shigh.AswiththeCongress,participationintheopenconferencesisopentoallandpapersmaybeinvitedorsubmitted.Again,submittedpapersarestringentlyrefereed.Theworkingconferencesarestructureddifferently.Theyareusuallyrunbyaworkinggroupandattendanceissmallandbyinvitationonly.Theirpurposeis
6、tocreateanatmosphereconducivetoinnovationanddevelopment.Refereeingislessrigorousandpapersaresubjectedtoextensivegroupdiscussion.PublicationsarisingfromIFIPeventsvary.ThepaperspresentedattheIFIPWorldComputerCongressandatopenconferencesarepublishedasconferenceproceedings,whileth
7、eresultsoftheworkingconferencesareoftenpublishedascollectionsofselectedandeditedpapers.AnynationalsocietywhoseprimaryactivityisininformationmayapplytobecomeafullmemberofIFIP,althoughfullmembershipisrestrictedtoonesocietypercountry.FullmembersareentitledtovoteattheannualGeneral
