3、tABSTRACT:Completelydecomposedgranite(CDG)soilisthemostcommontypeofsoilsfoundinmorethan90%ofthelandareainHongKong.Themeasurementofthestress-strain-strengthbehaviouroftheCDGsoilisveryimportantfordeformationandstabilityanalysisofslopes,retainingwalls,excavations,deepa
4、ndshallowfoundationsrelatedtotheCDGsoilground.Asmostofthesegeotechnicalstructuresareinathree-dimensional(3-D)stressstateorapproximatelyinaplanestraincondition,themeasurementofthebehaviouroftheCDGsoilina3-Dstressstateoraplanestrainconditionisnecessary.Inthispaper,fir
5、st,anewtruetriaxialloadingdeviceanditssetupfortestingareintroduced.Second,typicaltestresultsfromaseriesoftruetriaxialtestsontheCDGsoilwithdifferentb-valuesarepresentedanddiscussed.Thesetestsareusedtostudytheinfluenceofintermediateprincipalstressonthemechanicalbehavi
6、ourofthere-compactedcompletelydecomposedgranitesoil.Third,typicaltestresultsfromaseriesofplanestraintestsonthesamesoilarepresentedanddiscussed.Thesetestresultsareusedtostudythestress-strain-strengthcharacteristicsofthesoilinaplanestraincondition.1Introduction2Thelan
7、dareaofHongKongis1101kmwithapopulationof6.9million.InHongKong’sgeology,themainrocktypeisgranite,approximately90%.Theweatheringoftherockhasresultedincompletelydecomposedgranite(CDG)soilinthemostlandarea.Therefore,theCDGiscommonlyencounteredinmostprojectsinHongKong,fo
