3、eofthemodestandbesttextbooks.Duringtheteachingprocessweteachersfindthiskindofgapappearedfrequently.Eventhoughourtextbooksareappreciatedbyteachersandstudentsforitswideknowledge,variousthemes,clearstructures,open-mindedideas,largevocabularyandsoon,moststudentswouldfin

4、dsuchgapsbetweenthemandtexts.Whileafewgoodstudentsleapgracefullyoversuchgaps,manyotherstudentsfindreadingdifficultorinsignificantinlearningtextsfordifferentreasons:theymaylackappropriateskills,motivations,interests,ortrustinthelearningsystem,ortheyjustmightnotlikele

5、arningEnglish,theteacher,orthewaythetextbookmakesthemfeeltoodifficultanddumb.SowhatcouldanEnglishteacherdotohelpthem?Tomyopinion,textsthatpresentnodifficultiesforreadersareusuallyjudgedtobeattheir“pleasure”readinglevel,ratherthanatthe“instructional”level.Ourstudents

6、needinstructionfromteacherswhentheyarecarryingsometasksthrough.TeachersasBridge  Howdoesa“bridge”doinourdailylife?Ithelpsusconnectonepointtoanother,similarly,textsneedtohavebridgestobuiltintothemwhenourstudentsfeelconfusedaboutthem.Teachersarethebridge.Oftenwedevote

7、tohelpingconnectourstudentswiththetextbookbyourownexperiencetoopenstudentstotheworldofthetext.Wehelpstudentsfindnewperspectives,newideas,andnewunderstandingofotherpeople,place,andtimesbystudyingthe“instructional”leveltext.Butsomestudentsoftencan’tfeelcomfortableinth
