4、neofbeingsenttoschoolattheageofninewasshort-livedbecausehisfather,inspirationforthecharacterofMrMicawberin'DavidCopperfield',wasimprisonedforbaddebt.Theentirefamilies,apartfromCharles,weresenttoMarshalseaalongwiththeirpatriarch.CharleswassenttoworkinWarren'sblackingfacto

5、ryandenduredappallingconditionsaswellaslonelinessanddespair.Afterthreeyearshewasreturnedtoschool,buttheexperiencewasneverforgottenandbecamefictionalizedintwoofhisbetter-knownnovels'DavidCopperfield'and'GreatExpectations'.Likemanyothers,hebeganhisliterarycareerasajournali

6、st.HisownfatherbecameareporterandCharlesbeganwiththejournals'TheMirrorofParliament'and'TheTrueSun'.Thenin1833hebecameparliamentaryjournalistforTheMorningChronicle.Withnewcontactsinthepresshewasabletopublishaseriesofsketchesunderthepseudonym'Boz'.InApril1836,hemarriedCath

7、erineHogarth,daughterofGeorgeHogarthwhoedited'SketchesbyBoz'.Withinthesamemonthcamethepublicationofthehighlysuccessful'PickwickPapers’andfromthatpointontherewasnolookingbackforDickens.Thoughhehadlittleformaleducation,hisearlyimpoverishmentdrovehimtosucceed.Heeditedaweekl
