2、nghaiEveningPostreported.InMarch2006,ZhangJiehai,adoctorateholderattheSociologyInstituteoftheShanghaiAcademyofSocialSciences,ledaresearchteamtoinvestigatehowWesternwomenlookedatChinesemen.ThesurveyshowsthatmanyWesternwomenthinkChinesemenaremostlynotedfortheircareforthefamily.Chinesemen,a
3、stheWesternwomensay,arewillingtospendmoneyforwomenandwhentheyfallinlovewithawoman,theyareseriousabouttheromance.Inregardtotheirshortcomings,WesternwomenthinkthatChinesemendonothavegentlemanmanners.Sincetheydonottakemuchexercise,mostChinesemendonothaveagoodfigure.Chinesemenlackindividuali
4、ty.NearlyeveryWesternwomanrespondenttothesurveymentionaboutthebadhabitsthatsomeChinesemenhave—spittingeverywhere,keepingnailsandlonghair,pickingtheirnosesandears,andnotcleaningtheirteeththoroughly.ThesebadhabitsmakemanyWesternwomenthinkthatChinesemenareaversetopersonalhygiene.Thesurveywa
5、sconductedintwoways,byquestionnairesandinterviews.Morethan100Westernwomenansweredthequestionnairesand20womendiscussedtheissueindetailsintheinterviews.AlltherespondentsarewhitewomenandhaveeitherworkedorlivedinChina.ForFrenchwomen,Chinesemen,especiallymeninShanghai,showmuchtenderlovingcare
6、forthefamily—theylookaftertheirchildrenandshowtheirlovingconcernfortheirwife,too.ManyAmericanwomenrespondentssaythatalthoughChinahadnotexperiencedanyFeministMovementsinhistory,manyChinesemendoknowhowtorespectwomen.Theyopenthedoorforwomenandcarrytheirhandbagsforthem.EverytimewhentheseAmer
