2、compartmentalizationofthetwolanguagesinthemind,andontheaimofmaximizingstudents'exposuretothesecondlanguage,laudablebutnotincompatiblewithuseofthefirstlanguage.TheLIhasalreadybeenusedinalternatinglanguagemethodsandinmethodsthatactivelycreatelinksbetweenLIandL2,suchasth

3、eNewConcurrentMethod,CommunityLanguageLearning,andDodson'sBilingualMethod.TreatingtheLIasaclassroomresourceopensupseveralwaystouseit,suchasforteacherstoconveymeaning,explaingrammar,andorganizetheclass,andforstudentstouseaspartoftheircollaborativeleamingandindividualst
