4、s,NuiandQuartet)cultivatedonanAndisolduringtwoconsecutivegrowthperiods.Inaddition,asecondassaywasconductedtodeterminetheresidualeffectofSeintheshootsduringfourconsecutiveplantcuts.Resultsshowedthatselenite-pelletedseedsatratesupto60gSeha-1didnotinfluencetheyieldofshootsa
5、ndrootsofthethreeryegrasscultivars.SeleniumconcentrationinshootsandrootssteadilyincreasedasaconsequenceofincreasedSesupply,anditwasaccumulatedmainlyintheroots.PlantsofthedifferentcultivarsaccumulatedsimilaramountsofSeintheirshoots,butQuartetrootsbuiltupgreaterSeconcentra
6、tionthanthoseofAriesorNuiatratesofapplicationabove35gSeha-1.WhereasSedosesabove10gha-1increasedtheshootSeconcentrationinthetwoyieldsofthethreeryegrasscultivarstosuitablelevelsaccordingtotheminimumdietaryrequirementofbeefanddairycattle,theresidualeffectofSewasmaintainedth
7、roughfourcutsatSesupplyof30and60gha-1.Likewise,thedifferentcultivarsdisplayeddifferentialpatternsoflipidperoxidationinresponsetotheaddedSe.Dur-ingthegrowthperiod,reductionsoftheoxidativedamageofmembraneswereac-companiedbyinhibitionofSODinAriesandNuiandbytheactivationofGS
