4、rkonthemicrowavetreatmentofcoal.Themajorityoftheworkwascarriedoutatlabscale,althoughafewprocesseshavemadeittopilotorevenindustrialscale.Theprocesseswithmoreimmediatepromiseforscale-upareidentified,asarethosethatrequirefurtherlaboratoryscaleexperimentstoestablishwhethermicrowaveproce
5、ssingshouldbepursuedatalargerscale.Theimportanceofdielectricpropertiesofthematerialstobeprocessedisemphasized,andthereasonsbehindtheneedforamulti-disciplinaryapproachtothedesignandoperationofelectromagneticexperimentsareexplained.Microwavecoalprocessingisadiversearea,whichhasthepote
6、ntialtoaidincoalupgrading,cleaningandcomminution,thusimprovingefficiencyandreducingharmfulemissionsofcoalusage.Otherpromisingresearchareasincludetheinvestigationofmicrowaveprocessingforcoking,liquefaction,enhancingfluidflowincoalbedsandcoalcharacterisation.Thepaperconcludesbydiscuss
