2、ERVEDABSTRACTPowerdistributionsystemstypicallyhavetieandsectionalizingswitcheswhosestatesdeterminethetopologicalconfigurationofthenetwork.Thesystemconfigurationaffectstheefficiencywithwhichthepowersuppliedbythesubstationistransferredtotheload.Powercompaniesareinter-ested

3、infindingthemostefficientconfiguration,theonewhichminimizestherealpowerlossoftheirthree-phasedistributionsystems.Inthisthesisthenetworkreconfigurationproblemisformulatedassingleobjectiveoptimizationproblemwithequalityandinequalityconstraints.Theproposedsolutiontothisprobl

4、emisbasedonageneralcombinatorialoptimizationalgorithmknownassimulatedannealing.ToensurethatasolutionisfeasibleitmustsatisfyKirchhoff’svoltageandcurrentlaws,whichinathree-phasedistributionsystemcanbeexpressedasthethree-phasepowerflowequations.Thederivationoftheseequatio

5、nsispresentedalongwithasummaryofrelatedthree-phasesystemmodeling.Thesimulatedannealingalgorithmisdescribedinageneralcontextandthenappliedspecificallytothenetworkreconfigurationproblem.Alsopre-sentedhereisadescriptionoftheimplementationofthissolutionalgo-rithminaClanguag

6、eprogram.ThisprogramwastestedonaSunworkstation,givenanexamplesystemwith147busesand12switches.Thealgorithmconvergedtotheoptimalsolutioninamatterofminutesdemonstratingthefeasibilityofusingsim-ulatedannealingtosolvetheproblemofnetworkreconfigurationforlossreductioninathre
