4、work,theplanningprocess(methodology),planpreparation,andtheengagementofstudentsthroughastudioexercisehasrevealedgreatinterestamongtheChineseforcreatingmoresustainable,livableandenvironmentallypleasingurbanareastoaddressexpandingurbanizationandenviron

6、ucturalsense.Now,however,Chinais47%urbanandhas89citiesofonemillionpeople,includingtheworldcitiesofBeijingandShanghai.ThelevelofurbanizationinChinawaslessthan20percentofthepopulationin1978,with50percentanticipatedbytheyear2020(Heikkila,2007).WhileChin
7、a’scitiesintheMaoisterawerebothproductionandadministrativecentersofeconomicTheoreticalandEmpiricalResearchesinUrbanManagementplanning,thefunctionsofbusinessandcommercewerecurtailed.(Brunn,etal,2012).Thatisnolongerthecase.Duringthepastquarter-century,
8、Chinesesocietyhasundergonedramaticandfundamentalchange.ThischangeechoedthedeterminationandcommitmentoftheChinesegovernmenttowardsamarketeconomysystemwithstrongChinesecharacteristics.Thatis,theChineseurbantransformationisnotamanifestationofaglobalexte
