3、ntotakeatollonmetalmarketsasillustratedbyNaturalResourcesCanada’s(NRCan)MonthlyMetalsPriceIndex(Figure1.2).Despitea$1.5billiondeclinefromthe2008totalof$3.3billion,therevisedcompanyspendingintentionstotalof$1.8billionfor2009remainsstrongbyhistoricalsta
4、ndards.Forinstance,inthelate1990s/early2000s,priortothejust-mentionedupwardtrend,explorationanddepositappraisalspendinginCanadahoveredaroundthe$500millionmark(currentdollars),reachingaconstant2008dollarlowof$615millionin2000.Theworldwidecrisishadamajo
5、randimmediateimpactontheCanadianandglobalexplorationandminingindustry.Companiesthatwereundersuddenfinancialduresshadtomovebeyondsimplydelayingplansandprojectsandadoptmoredrasticmeasurestosurviveandpreservetheircashandpropertyassets.Atthetimeofwritingt
6、hisreport(January2010),thereweresignsthattheglobaleconomywasbeginningtoturnaroundanditwasbecomingclearerthatsomeshiftswereoccurringintheindustry.Inparticular,changesintheownershipofpromisingexplorationanddevelopmentproperties,andthearrivalofnewcapital
7、providers,werestartingtobreathenewlifeintosomepro-jectsandacceleratetheirdevelopment.ThisarticlepresentsasummaryofsomeoftheeventsandtrendsthatbothaffectedandshapedtheCanadianmineralexplorationsectorin2009.Italsointroduces,summarizes,andcomplementsothe
