4、onstratehardwareandalgorithmperformanceinground-basedtestbeds.ItistypicallydifficulttoexperimentallyreplicatesatellitedynamicsinanEarth-boundlaboratorybecauseoftheinfluencesofgravityandfriction.Anairbearingprovidesaverylow-torqueenvironmentforexperimentation,therebyrecapturingthefreedomofthespaceenv

5、ironmentaseffectivelyaspossible.Dependinguponcon-figuration,air-bearingsystemsprovidesomecombinationoftranslationalandrotationalfreedom;thethreedegreesofrotationalfreedomprovidedbyasphericalairbearingareidealforinvestigationofspacecraftattitudedynamicsandcontrolproblems.Aninterestinexperimentaldemo

6、nstrationofformationflyingleddirectlytothedevelop-mentoftheDistributedSpacecraftAttitudeControlSystemSimulator(DSACSS).TheDSACSSisauniquefacility,asitusestwoair-bearingplatformsworkinginconcert.ThusDSACSSprovidesapairof‘spacecraft’threedegreesofattitudefreedomeach.ThroughuseoftheDSACSSweareabletor
