2、icalphenomenaarerestrictedtodomainsthatarerelativelylocalinspace,andreal-spacemethodsarewellsuitedtoexploitthatphysicallocality.Inreal-spacemethods,theiterativeupdatesofthedesiredfunctionsrequireinformationonlyinasmallneighborhoodneartheupdatedpoint.Thedraw-backwiththisapproachisthat,iftheiterations

3、areperformedonlyonasingle(finest)grid,thesolvertendstostallduetothelong-wavelengthcomponentsoftheerrors.Multigridmethodsovercomethisstallingbyutilizinginformationfromawiderangeoflengthscales.Withtheincorporationofmultiscaleideas,solverscanoftenbedesignedforwhichthecostscaleslinearlywithsystemsize.Int
