2、cutiveSummaryWearepleasedtopresentthe2014GlobalReportontheCostofCyberCrime.SponsoredbyHPEnterpriseSecurity,thisyear’sstudyisbaseduponarepresentativesampleof257organizationsinvariousindustrysectors.TheCostofCyberCrimestudywasfirstconductedbyPonemonInstituteintheUnitedStates
3、fiveyearsago.ThisisthethirdyearweconductedthestudyintheUnitedKingdom,Germany,AustraliaandJapan.LastyearweexpandedtheresearchtoFranceandthisyearweaddedtheRussianFederation.Thefindingsfrom7countriesarepresentedinseparatereports.DuringtheperiodweconductedinterviewsGlobalStudy
4、ataGlanceandanalyzedthefindings,megacybercrimestookplace.Mostnotablewasthe257companiesin7countriesTargetcyberbreach,whichwasreported2,081interviewswithUScompanypersonneltoresultinthetheftof40millionpaymentcards.1,717totalattacksusedtomeasuretotalcost$7.6millionistheaverage
5、annualizedcostMorerecently,ChinesehackerslaunchedacyberattackagainstCanada’sNational10.4percentnetincreaseoverthepastyearResearchCouncilaswellascommercial15percentaverageROIfor7securitytechnologiesentitiesinPennsylvania,includingWestinghouseElectricCompany,U.S.SteelandtheU
6、nitedSteelWorkersUnion.RussianhackersrecentlystolethelargestcollectionofInternetcredentialsever:1.2billionusernamesandpasswords,plus500millionemailaddresses.Whilethecompaniesrepresentedinthisresearchdidnothavecyberattacksasdevastatingasthesewere,theydidexperienceincidentst
7、hatwereexpensivetoresolveanddisruptivetotheiroperations.Forpurposesofthisstudy,werefertocyberattacksascriminalactivityconductedviatheInternet.Theseattackscanincludestealinganorganization’sintellectualproperty,confiscatingonlinebankaccounts,creatinganddistributingvirusesono
