3、ndparchmenthalf-binding.Becausethisnever-reissuedvolumeisgreatlydifferentfromits1937revision,studentsandscholarswhoseektounderstandthedevelopmentofYeats'smindandartduringamostimportantperiod(1917-25)havelongbeenlacedwithaseriouslacuna.ThepresenteditionreproducesYeats'soriginalworkbyap
4、rocessofphoto-lithography;theonlydifferencesbetweenYeats'soriginaltextandthepresentone,therefore,consistoftheuseoflessexpen-sivepaperandbinding,oftheintroductionoflineation,ofthesubstitutionofordinaryforbrownpaperforthewoodcuts(facingthetitlepageandpagesxvand8),andoftheuseofblackrathe
5、rthanredinkfortheupperconeanditsannotationsinthediagramofthehistoricalcones(p.177).Otherwise,nochangesofanykindhavebeenmadeinYeats'stext,whichretainsitsoriginalpagination.Asrecentscholarshiphasshown,manyofYeats'sprosetextswere'improved'withoutnoteafterhisdeath;whilethepresentformatent
6、ailsendnotesratherthanmoreconvenientfootnotes,italsoallowsabsolutelyaccuratereproductionoftheoriginal—andonly—textofYeats's1925Vision.ThescholarlyapparatusofthiseditionconsistsofanEditorialIntroductiontracingthedevelopmentofthebook(particularly,Yeats'sindebtednesstoMrsYeats'smediumshi
