4、SeverallessonsfromYear7classeswereobservedacrossavarietyoflessonstructuressuchasexpositoryteaching,whole-classdiscussions,laboratorydemonstration,andhands-onpracticalwork.Thelessonswereaudiotapedandvideo-taped.Transcriptsofthelessonsweremadeandanalysed,withparticulara
5、ttentionpaidtointerac-tionsthatinvolvedquestions.Usingthe“Questioning-basedDiscourse”analyticalframeworkdevelopedinthisstudy,fourdifferenttypesoffeedbackwereidentified.Interactionalissuesrelatedtowaysofspeakingandquestioningthatencouragestudentresponsesandthinkingarea
6、ddressed.Thisinformationprovidesadescriptionofwhatconstituteseffectivediscourseinscienceteachingandlearning,andwillalsobeusefulforbothteachersandteacher-educatorsinidentifyinganappropriaterepertoireofskillsforsubsequentteachereducationandprofessionaldevelopment.Introd
