4、catedAmericanstoseesomeofthenativetribesoftheGreatPlains.AndtheywerethefirstwhitepeopletheseNativeAmericanpeoplehadeverseen.WhenthegroupofexplorersnearedtheeasternsideofthegreatRockyMountains,theymetwithatribeofIndianscalledtheShoshoni.MerriwetherLewiswasthefirsttoseethem.Let

6、eyareridingveryfast.Somehorsesseemtobewithoutriders.Butacloserlookshowsthatthemenarehangingoffthesides,orunderthehorsesneck.Theyareusingthehorses'bodiesasprotection.Thehorsesarepaintedwithmanydifferentdesignsthatuseblue,black,redorothercolors.Laterwelearnthateachdesignhasaspe
