3、peanFrameworkofReferenceforlanguagesandtheAmericanna-tionalstandards,whichreferencetheAmericanCouncilontheTeachingofForeignLan-guagesproficiencyscale.TheELPscharacteristicthree-partformat,consistingofalanguagepassport,alanguagebiography,andadossier,buildsonearlierresearchonportfoliosandsec-
4、ondlanguageassessment.Theportfoliosqualitativeassessmentcomplementsothertypesofquantitativeassessmentmeasures.Theauthorsalsoexploretheuniqueaffordancesofferedbyelectronicportfoliostoconnectteachingandlearningtoassessment,discusstheeffectivenessofportfoliosasanassessmenttool,andpointtofutur
5、edirectionsfore-portfolioresearchanddevelopmentforlanguagelearning.COMPUTERASSESSMENTOFSECONDLAN-usingitemresponsetheory(IRT)asabasis(whichguage(L2)learneroutcomesisafieldthatunderminestheresultsofCAT),variationsinCATencompassescomputer-basedtesting(CBT),scoresdependingonthealgorithmusedtod
