4、ctivefeaturesinnature,Englishpunscanachievemanyeffects:humour,satire,vividexpressionofthecharacters'feelings,whichhugelyincreasethedelicacyoflanguageandimprovereadabilityinordertoattractthereaders'interest.However,thetranslationofEnglishpunisalwaysco
5、nsideredtobeextremelydifficult.Somepunsareevenconsideredtobe"untranslatable".SincetherearedifferencesbetweenChineseandEnglishinphonologyandmorphology,itisdifficulttofindequivalencebothinsoundandinmeaninginthetargetlanguage.Butthereisnosourcetextthati

7、anslatability,TranslatingMethods iiiiii摘要英语Paronomasia通常被称作Pun,源自于拉丁语Paronomasia一词。英语双关语是一个非常重要的修辞手段，它是巧妙使用同音异义词或同形异义词的一种修辞手段，是被广泛运用于各种文学作品,如诗歌、小说、广告及谜语中的一种常见形式。它的主要特点在于通过文字游戏的方式用一个词或一句话巧妙的将互不关联的双重含义结合起来，并因此表达出不同的两层意思，本文在英语双关的定义和划分基础上指出了如何用同形同音异义词、
8、同音异义词、同形异义词来构成双关。英语双关主要被分为三类:同音双关、同词双关、音义双关。通过利用其特有的本质特点，双关能起到诙谐幽默,冷嘲热讽,形象生动的作用以及充分体现人物的性格特征,并能通过加强语言的精美,提高该作品的可读性来引起读者的兴趣。然而,英语双关语的翻译又是极其困难的,有些双关甚至被认为是不可译的,因为英汉两种语言的语音不同,两种语言的多义词并不能完全对应,但英语双关语还是存在一定的可译性。本文主要介绍3种主要翻译方法:直译法,意译法,注释法。关键词：英语双关语，分类，不可译和可译
