2、tomeasureelasticpropertiesaswellasflawsinsolidspecimenshasreceivedmuchattention,andmanyimportantapplicationshavebeendevelopedrecently.Thispapersummarizessomeoftherecentresultsinapplyingelasticwavestonondestructiveevaluation(NDE)ofisotropicaswellasanisotropicmaterials.Thispaperisdivided
3、intofourparts,thefirstpartdescribesthetheoreticalbackgroundofsurfacewavesinananisotropiclayeredmedium,wheresexticformalismofsurfacewavesisadopted.Thesecondpartintroducesnumericalsimulationsof2-Dand3-Dtransientelasticwavespropagatinginplatestructuresthatcontaincracksand/orflaws.Inthethi
4、rdpart,someoftheapplicationsoflasergeneratedsurfacewavesusedtodetermineanisotropicelasticconstantsandbondingconditionsinlayeredmediaaredescribed.Inthelastpart,anewlydevelopedmethodfordeterminingconcreteelasticconstantsandrecentlydevelopedmethodsfordetectionofsurfacebreakingcracksinconc
