3、paganda.BecauseofAmericans’self-involvement,whenforeignaffairsarepresented,itisinthetrademarksnappyheadlinefollowedbyasuperficial,shortrecitationthatagain,includesnocontextinwhichtoplacethestory.WeshouldclearlyrealizethechallengesAmericaarefacingwhateverinthefreedomofspee
4、chorinthefreedomofpress,andhowtominimizethebadinfluencebecomesapriorityforAmerica.(173words)Afreesocietyisdependentuponthepressforinformation,plainandsimple,asfewindividualshavefirsthandaccesstowhattheirgovernmentandotherpublicbodiesaredoing.Formostofus,informationaboutth
5、osepowersthatdirectlyaffectourlivesislearnedthroughthepressandwerelyonthatprofession’sintegritytodosoinatruthfulandneutralmanner.Theseconglomeratescontrolseveraltypesofmedia.Presently,therearefewerthan1,500dailypapersand1,200commercialstationsintheUnitedStates.Attheturnof
6、themillennium,Gannettowned93dailypapers,15televisionstations,and19radiostations.CoxBroadcastingowned11radiostations,3televisionstations,4cablevisionsystems,andninenewspapercompanies.TheNewYorkTimesCompanyowned35dailynewspapers,8weeklies,2radiostations,fivetelevisionstatio
7、ns,andnumerousmagazines.Disney(followingtheirpurchaseofCapitalCities/ABC)ownedtwotelevisionnetworks,7televisionmega-stations,7radionetworksservingmorethan3,000affiliatedradiostations,18radiostations,75weeklynewspapers,andnumeroustrademagazines.Whyisfreedomofspeechsosolidl
