2、h-behaviortheoryhasdevelopedfromresearchconductedbysocialpsychologists(Noar,2005).Inthe1950s,socialpsychologistssoughttounderstandbehaviorthroughthelensoftheoriessuchasStimulusResponseTheoryandCognitiveTheory(Janz,Champion,&Strecher,2002).ThemainclaimofStimulusResponseTheoryisthatindi

3、vidualslearnfromeventsandchangetheirbehavioraccordingly.TheassertionofCognitiveTheoryisthatbehaviorstemsfromthesubjectivevalueplacedonanoutcomeandtheexpectationthatanactionwillresultinaparticularoutcome.Severalprominentscientistsconductedtheresearchthatledtotheemergenceoftheseandother

4、relatedtheories.GodfreyHochbaumandIrwinRosenstockweresocialpsychologistswhoworkedfortheU.S.PublicHealthServiceduringthe1950sand60sandlaterpursuedacademiccareersinthebehavioralsciences.DuringtheiremploymentattheU.S.PublicHealthService,thesetworesearcherssoughttoexplainthefailureofindiv

5、idualstoparticipateindiseasepreventionprograms,suchasMycobacteriumtuberculosisscreeningprograms.ThisworkledtothedevelopmentoftheHealthBeliefModel,whichincludestheconstructsofperceivedsusceptibility,perceivedseverity,perceivedbenefits,perceivedbarriers,andcuestoaction.AlbertBandurasubs

6、equentlyaddedself-efficacy(Bandura,1977)totheHealthBeliefModel,effectivelydemonstratinghowtheoriescanchangeastheybecomesubjecttoadditionalscrutinyandempiricaltesting.Thisprogressionhasalsooccurredduringthedevelopmentofintrapersonaltheoriesthathavebeenappliedtohealthbehaviors,forexampl
