3、nglamellacallforinvestigationsintonewapplications.Onepossibleapplicationistherollingelementbearing.Amodifiedfourballmachinewhichmodelstheconfigurationofadeepgrooverollingelementballbearingwasusedasanacceleratedmethodtocomparetheroilingcontactfatigueresistanceofthetestmaterials.RCFtestswereco

4、nductedinconventionalrollingelementsteelballbearing(steellowerballs)andhybridceramicbearing(ceramiclowerballs)contactconfigurations.Plasmasprayedcoatingsweredepositedonabearingsteel(440-C)substrateatdifferentthicknes~s.Thecoatedrollingelementconesweregroundandpolishedtoachieveag~dsurfacefini

5、shontherollingelements.RCFtestswereconductedunderthevarioustribologicalconditionsofcontactstress,lubricantandtestconfigurations.ThefrictionaltorqueinthecupassemblywasmeasuredduringtheRCFtestswiththeaidofaforcetransducer.Thespeedoftheplanetaryballswasmonitoredusinganaccelerometerandfastfourie

6、rtransf0rmatinnofthevibrationsignal.Thisenabledtheexperimentalmeasurementofslidingbetweenthecoatedconeandthedrivenballs.Thefailedrollingelements,coatingdebrisandthelowerplanetaryballswereanalyzedforsurfaceobservationsundertheScanningElectronMicroscopetSEM),andElectroProbeMicroscopeAnalysis(E
