3、emanufactureandsaleoftheseproducts.Thesesurmountableproblemsseverelylimitcurrententhusiasmofthemedicalcommunityfortheuseofanyherbalsupplements.Physicians,outsideofthesmallnumberofre-searcherswhoarefamiliarwiththepotentialofbotanicaldietarysup-plements,haverec
4、eivedlittleornoeducationonthesafetyorefficacyofusinganyherbalproductsinprimarycarepractice,includingthosebotanicaldietarysupplementsthatareusedforweightreduction.Despitethenegativeviewofherbsheldbythemainstreammedicalcommunity,botanicaldietarysupplementsforweig
5、htlossremainextremelypopularwiththegeneralpublic.Infact,theuseofherbalandalternativemedicineshasincreasedinthelastdecadeintheUnitedStates.Inresponsetopublicdemandsfortheseproducts,theU.S.CongresspassedtheDietarySupplementsHealthEducationAct(DSHEA)in1994,which
6、enablesmanufacturerstomarkettheseproductswithouttheextensivepreviousproofofefficacyandsafetythatisrequiredofprescriptiondrugmanu-facturers.Althoughthislawhasmadetheseproductsavailableforpur-chasewithoutaprescription,thelawalsoprohibitedanyclaimthatsuchResearchs
