3、ardlessofculture,language,nationality,willarriveatthisfinalstageofpoliticalandsocialdevelopment.Theentireworld’speopleswillbeunifiedinthisparadiseonearthandlivehappilyeverafter.Butbeforewegetthere,we’reengagedinastrugglebetweengoodandevil,thegoodofsocia
4、lismagainsttheevilofcapitalism,andthegoodshalltriumph.That,ofcourse,wasthemeta-narrativedistilledfromthetheoriesofKarlMarx.AndtheChineseboughtit.Weweretaughtthatgrandstorydayinanddayout.Itbecamepartofus,andwebelievedinit.Thestorywasabestseller.Aboutonth
5、irdoftheentireworld’spopulationlivedunderthatmetanarrative.Then,theworldchangedovernight.Asforme,disillusionedbythefailedreligionofmyyouth,IwenttoAmericaandbecameaBerkeleyhippie.Now,asIwascomingofageu>,somethingelsehappened.Asifonebigstorywasn’tenough,I
