2、tographywithdetectionbyafouriertransforminfraredspectrometer(GC/FT-IR).Thefollowingcompoundscanbedeterminedbythismethod:aCompoundNameAbbreviationCASNumberBis(2-chloroethyl)etherBCEE111-44-42-ChloroethanolCE107-07-32-(2-Chloroethoxy)ethanol2CEE628-89-7DiethyleneglycolDEG111-46-6Ethyleneglycol

3、EG107-21-1aChemicalAbstractServiceRegistryNumber.1.2Althoughtheinitialstudyuponwhichthismethodisbasedtargetedonlythebis(2-chloroethyl)etheranditshydrolysiscompounds,itshasbeensuggestedthatthismethodcanbeusedfortheidentificationofcompoundsthataregenerallynon-extractable,highlywatersoluble,the

4、rmallystable,anddonotco-elutewithwaterfromtheGC.Possibleanalytesincludeethersandalcohols.1.3Theminimumidentifiablequantities(MIQ)forthefivecompoundsinorganic-freereagentwaterrangefromalowof46ngforBCEE,toahighof120ngforEG(SeeSec.9.2forMIQdefinition).TheMIQforaspecificsamplemaydifferdependingo

5、nthenatureoftheinterferencesinthesamplematrixandtheamountofsampleusedfortheanalysis.1.4Thismethodisrestrictedtousebyorunderthesupervisionofanalystsexperiencedintheuseofgaschromatography(GC),theinterpretationofFT-IRspectraandtheuseofcontinuousdatacollectionsystems.Eachanalystmustdemonstrateth

6、eabilitytogenerateacceptableresultswiththismethod.2.0SUMMARYOFMETHOD2.1Watersamplesarefilteredthrougha0.45µmfilter,and1µLaliquotsareinjecteddirectlyintoaGC.TheGCisequippedwith2detectors,athermalconductivitydetector(TCD)andanFT-IR.Duringanalysis,theanalystdisconnectstheFT-IRfromthesystemtopre

7、ventaqueousdegradationoftheKBrwindow,usingan8portswitchingvalve.Furtheranalysisofeitherthesolidprecipitatefromthefilteringsteportheaqueousfiltratefortraceamountsofnon-watersolublecompoundsmaybedonebyextractingthesamplesusingappropriate3500seriesmet
