4、ements,hydrogenandhelium.Subsequentperiodshave8,8,18,18,and32elements.Withtheexceptionofthefirstperiod,eachcompleteperiodbeginswithanalkalimetal(groupⅠA)—ahighlyreactive,light,silverymetal—andendswithanoblegas(group0)—anunreactive,colorlessgas.Theelementbeforethenoblegasofeachcompletepe
5、riod(again,exceptingthefirstperiod)isahalogen(groupⅦA)—averyreactivenonmetal.Thereisageneralpatternforeachoftheperiodsafterthefirst.Startingwithanalkalimetal,thepropertieschangefromelementtoelement—themetallicpropertiesfadingandbeinggraduallyreplacedbynonmetalliccharacteristics.Afterahi
