3、ptidesofmol.wt.90x103(90K;S1)and84K($2),shownbyanalysisofdifferentiallyradiolabelledvirustobepresentinequimolarproportions.Polypeptidesof75Kand110K,whichweredetectedbyCoomassieBrilliantBluestaininginsimilaramountstoS1and$2insomeunlabelledviruspreparations,wereabsentfrompeplomerpreparationsandareprob
4、ablyhostcellpolypeptides.TheS1:S2:N:MpolypeptidemolarratioforIBV-M41wasapproximately1:1:6:15.Theavianinfectiousbronchitisvirus(IBV)particle,likeothercoronaviruses,containsthreemajorproteinstructures,thesurfaceprojectionorpeplomer(S),nucleocapsid(N)andmatrix(M)proteins(Cavanagh,1981;Siddelletal.,1982
5、).TheMproteincomprisesapolypeptideofmol.wt.23000(23K)whichisglycosylatedtodifferentextentstoformglycopolypeptidesofmol.wt.upto36K(Sternetal.,1982;Stern&Sefton,1982;Cavanagh,1983).Apolypeptideof50Kto54KformstheNprotein(Macnaughtonetal.,1977).ThereislessagreementonthecompositionoftheSprotein.Sincethep
6、resumptiveSpolypeptidesofallcoronavirusesexaminedhavemol.wt.greaterthanthatoftheNpolypeptide,thefollowingaccountrefersonlytosuchIBVpolypeptides.UreaandbromelaincanremovepeplomersfromIBV,concomitantwiththeremovaloftwoglycopolypeptidesS1(90K)and$2(84K)from[3SS]methionine-labelledvirusgrowninthechorioa
