3、utastrictregardtoalltheconsiderationsappertainingtotherelation,whichbindsadutifulCitizentohiscountry--andthat,inwithdrawingthetenderofservicewhichsilenceinmySituationmightimply,Iaminfluencedbynodiminutionofzealforyourfutureinterest,nodeficiencyofgratefulrespectforyourpastkindness;buta
4、msupportedbyafullconvictionthatthestepiscompatiblewithboth. Theacceptanceof,&continuancehithertoin,theOfficetowhichyourSuffrageshavetwicecalledme,havebeenauniformsacrificeofinclinationtotheopinionofduty,andtoadeferenceforwhatappearedtobeyourdesire.Iconstantlyhoped,thatitwou
5、ldhavebeenmuchearlierinmypower,consistentlywithmotives,whichIwasnotatlibertytodisregard,toreturntothatretirement,fromwhichIhadbeenreluctantlydrawn.Thestrengthofmyinclinationtodothis,previoustothelastElection,hadevenledtothepreparationofanaddresstodeclareittoyou;butmaturereflectiononth
