2、inerotavirus-bovinecoronavirusvaccine.Negativestainelectronmicroscopicexaminationdetectedvaccinerotavirusinonly1of41dailyfecalspecimenscollectedfrom3gnotobioticcalvesduringthe2weeksfollowingoralinoculationwithaUSDepartmentofAgriculture-licensedmodifiedlivebovinerotavirus-bovinecoronavirusvaccine.

3、Incontrast,rotaviruswasdemonstrablebythesamenegativestainelectronmicroscopicexaminationprocedurein17of19fecalspecimenscollectedfromdiarrheicgnotobioticorcolostrum-deprivedcalvesduringthefirst8daysafterinoculationwithvirulentbovinerotavirusfieldstrains.Rotaviruswasalsodetectedbythisprocedurein4enz

4、yme-linkedimmunosorbentassaypositivefecalspecimenscollectedfromnaturally-infecteddiarrheicdairycalves.Theseresultssuggestthatfecalsheddingofvaccinerotavirusdemonstrablebyelectronmicroscopicexaminationisuncommonfollowingoralinoculationofcalveswiththebovinerotavirus-bovinecoronavirusvaccine.In1969a

5、previouslyunrecognizedvirusrecoveredlate(theLincolnstrain)wasadaptedtoserialpropa-6,9fromdiarrheiccalvesinNebraskawasdescribedandgationincellculture,whichresultedinanattenuated13showntoinducediarrheainexperimentallyinoculated,virusforcalves.Thisattenuatedstrainwasincor-12hysterectomy-derived,colo

6、strum-deprivedcalves.poratedintoavaccinelicensedbytheUSDepartmentThisviruswasinitiallyreferredtoasneonatalcalfofAgriculture(USDA)in1973fororalinoculationofadiarrheavirus,Nebraskacalfdiarrheavirus,reo-likenewborncalves.In1976anattenuatedbovinecoro-virus,orreovirus-likeagentbutisnowknownasbo-naviru
