4、s(MERS-CoV)emergedin2012ontheArabianPeninsulaandhascausedsevererespiratorydiseasewithmorethan800laboratory-confirmedcases.ThereturnofinfectedpilgrimstotheirhomecountrieswithaputativespreadofMERS-CoVnecessitatesfurthersurveillance.Methods:Asurveillancestudyof839adultAfrican
5、HajjpilgrimsreturningtoAccrainGhana,WestAfrica,wasconductedin2013toassesstheprevalenceofrespiratorysymptomsaswellasofMERS-CoV,humanRhinovirus(HRV),RespiratorySyncytialVirus(RSV),andInfluenzaAvirus(FLUA)infec-tion.Results:651(77.6%)pilgrimshadrespiratorysymptoms.Testswerepo
6、sitiveforatleastoneofthevirusesotherthanMERS-CoVin179(21.3%)ofallpilgrims,with22.4%detectioninsymptomaticvs.17.6%detectioninasymptomaticpilgrims.NoMERS-CoVwasdetected,althoughcommonrespira-toryviruseswereprevalent,withpositivefindingsforHRVin141individuals(16.8%),RSVin43in
