2、nerationarelocatedfarawayfromloadcenters.Largegeneratingfacilitiesconnectedtodistantloadcentersbylongactransmissionlinesfacenumeroustechnicalchallenges,regardlessofthetypeofgeneratingfacility.Thispaperaddressessomeofthemostsignificantchallengesforwindgenerationfacilities,inclu
3、dingvoltagecontrol,reactivepowermanagement,dynamicpower-swingstability,andbehaviorfollowingdisturbancesinthepowergrid.Windgenerationtechnologyhasevolvedsignificantlyoverthepastseveralyears,andprovensolutionstothesetechnicalchallengesnowexist.Controlsintegratedintothepowerelect
4、ronicsandmechanicalcontrolsofindividualwind-turbine-generators,combinedwithintegratedwind-farmcontrolsystems,havethecapabilityofcontrollingnumerouswindturbinessothattheyactasoneunifiedgeneratingplantatthepointofinterconnectionwiththepowergrid.Thisadvancedhierarchicalcontrolofb
5、othrealandreactivepoweroutputcanprovidedynamicperformancethatis,inmanycases,superiortothatachievablewithmodernconventionalsynchronousgeneration.Thispaperdescribes:①Windfarmcontrolfunctions,includingperformanceforcontrollinggridvoltageinquasi-steady-stateanddynamicconditions.②L
