3、yingwhetheritemsamplingusingmatrixsamplingmethodsimprovedthewell-knownsurveyprotocol,LibQUAL+®,andproducedaviablealternative,LibQUAL+®Lite;inparticular,improvementsregardingparticipationrates,completiontimeforthesurvey,andresultscomparisonsareexaminedintheLiteversionoftheprotoco
4、lwithindifferentinstitutionalsettingsthroughaseriesofrandomizedcontroltrials;(b)identifyingwhethertherearedifferencesinthetotal,subscale,andlinkingitemscoresbetweenthelongandtheLiteprotocoloverallaswellaswithinthethreemainusergroups:undergraduatestudents,graduatestudentsandfacul
5、ty.Forthepurposesofthisstudydatafrommorethan10,000libraryusersfrom14institutionsthatimplementedrandomizedcontroltrialsduringthespring2008,fall2008,andspring2009surveycycleswereanalyzed.FindingsindicatethatLibQUAL+®Liteisaviableandpreferredalternativetothelongformof22coreitemstha
6、thasbeenestablishedsince2003.LibQUAL+®Liteusesitemsamplingmethodsto:(a)gatherdataonall22LibQUAL+®coreitems,while(b)eachindividualparticipantiirespondstoonlyasubsetofitems.EveryLiteuserrespondstoone“linking”itemfromeachofthesubscales,andtoarandomly-selectedsubsetoffiveitemsfromth
7、eremaining19(22-3)coreLibQUAL+®items.Asaconsequence,surveyresponsetimesareroughlycutinhalf,whilethelibrarystillreceivesdataoneverysurveyquestion.Thematrixsamplingmethod,therandomizedcontroltrialframework,andthestatisticalanalysismethodsoutlinedinthecurrentstudyareusefulheuristic
