1、ABriefHistoryoftheCollegeofUrbanandEnvironmentalSciences(UES)TheCollegeofUrbanandEnvironmentalScienceswasoriginallyestablishedfromtheDepartmentofGeography,whichwasestablishedin1952astheDepartmentofGeologyandGeography.In1989,thedepartmentwasrenamedtheDepartmentofUrbanandEn
2、vironmentalSciences,whichlaterbecametheCollegeofUrbanandEnvironmentalSciencein2002.AsUESexpands,thenumberofstudentshassoaredinresponsetothegrowingdemandsofthesefields.AdministrativeStructureUESisundertheadministrationoftheFacultyofNaturalSciences.Currently,UESconsistsoffi
3、vedepartments,DepartmentofEnvironmentalScience,DepartmentofEcology,DepartmentofPhysicalGeographyandGeomorphology,DepartmentofUrbanandEconomicGeography,andDepartmentofUrbanandRegionalPlanning,andtwocenters,theCenterforHistoricalGeographyandtheCenterforArchitecture.Eachofth
4、efivedepartmentsandtwocentersaremanagedbyadepartmentchairorcenterdirector.ThedepartmentchairsandcenterdirectorsareelectedbythefacultymembersofthecorrespondingdepartmentorcenterandappointedbytheDean.Theprimaryresponsibilitiesofthechairsorcenterdirectorsistoconductcurriculu
5、mreviewsandrevisionsoftheirrespectiveprogram,recruitgraduatestudents,andpromotethedepartment’steaching,research,andserviceactivities.FacultyThereare68full-timefacultymembersatUES,amongwhich32arefullprofessors,25areassociateprofessors,threeareassistantprofessors,andeightar
6、eresearchprofessors.Thefullprofessors,researchprofessors,andassociateprofessorsserveasgraduatefaculty,withfullprofessorsandresearchprofessorsalsoservingasdoctoralcandidatesupervisors.Thetotalnumberoffacultyhasremainedrelativelyconsistentoverthepastfiveyears,asthenumberofn
7、ewhirestendstoequaltothenumberofretirees.Amongthefull-timefacultymembers,fourteenarefemale.AllfacultymembersareChinesenationals,withtheexceptionofonefacultymemberfromtheUK,whoservedasanassistantprofessorforthreeyearsandleftUESthisfall.Amongthefacultymembers,twoarememberso
