3、ayandoverthelasttwodecades.Wedistinguishbetweenmalesandfemalesand,wherepossibleandmeaningful,betweenimmigrantsofdifferentorigins.OurcomparisongroupiswhiteBritish-bornindividuals.OurdatasourceistheBritishLabourForceSurvey.Wefirstprovidedescriptiveinformationonthecompositionofimm
4、igrantsinBritain,andhowthishaschangedovertime,theirsocio-economiccharacteristics,theirindustryallocationandtheirlabourmarketoutcomes.Wetheninvestigatevariouslabourmarketperformanceindicators(labourforceparticipation,employment,wagesandself-employment)forimmigrantsofdifferentori
5、gins,andcomparethemwithBritish-bornwhitesofthesameage,regionandotherbackgroundcharacteristics.Wefindthatoverthelast20years,Britain’simmigrantpopulationhaschangedinorigincompositionandhasdramaticallyimprovedinskillcomposition–notdissimilarfromthetrendintheBritish-bornpopulation.
