1、ChinaUniversityofMiningandTechnology(CUMT)isoneofthekeynationaluniversitiesunderthedirectadministrationoftheChina’sMinistryofEducation.ItisalsooneoftheuniversitieswhichhostagraduateschoolwiththeapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation,andoneofthatinthenational“211project”,agovernmentprogramdesi
2、gnedtosupportandimprovetop-levelinstitutionsofhigherlearninginChina.CUMTgrewoutofJiaozuoSchoolofRailroadandMines,whichwasestablishedin1909andwaslaterexpandedandrenamedJiaozuoInstituteofTechnology.In1950,JiaozuoInstituteofTechnologymovedtoTianjinandwasrenamedtheChinaInstituteofMiningandT
3、echnology(CIMT).ItbecamethefirsthigherlearninginstitutioninthefieldofmininginChina.In1952,duringanationalreadjustmentofhigherlearninginstitutions,theminingengineeringdepartmentsofTsinghuaUniversityandthenow-defunctBeiyangandTangshanRailroadUniversitiesweremergedintoCIMT.In1953,theInstit
4、utemovedtoBeijingandwasrenamedBeijingInstituteofMiningandTechnology(BIMT),whereitbecameoneoftheeightmostrenownedinstitutesinBeijing.In1960,BIMTwasratedakeyuniversityinthenation.DuringtheperiodoftheCulturalRevolution,itmovedtoSichuanProvinceandwasrenamedtheSichuanInstituteofMiningandTech
5、nology.In1978,withtheapprovaloftheStateCouncil,anewcampuswasestablishedinXuzhou,JiangsuProvince,withtheschoolnamerestoredtoCIMT,andwasratedbythegovernmentasoneofChina’s88keystateuniversities.In1988,theinstitutionwasformallyrenamedtheChinaUniversityofMiningandTechnology(CUMT),andin1997,a
6、secondcampusinBeijingwasestablishedwiththeapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation.Astheoldesthigherlearninginstitutionwithafocusonminingengineeringinthecountry,CUMThasbeenandcontinuestoreceivemuchattentionandsupportfromleadersofthecentralgovernment.OnMay11,1988,DengXiaopinginscribedinhisownhan
7、dwritingthenameofCUMT(itappearsonthecoverofthisbrochure)whichisamarkofgreatdistinctioninChineseculture.OnJanuary19,1996,thenPresidentJiangZeminandvice-premierWuBangguopersonallyinspectedthefacilitiesforcoalwatermixturepreparationtechnologyontheBeijingcampus.OnMay18,1999,JiangZe
