3、apeoplehasdiscussedandanalyzeditsinceitscreating,andthemostcontroversialpointaboutitisthefateofOedipus--whetheritisdecidedbyApolloortragicflawinOedipus’scharacter.AsfarasIcansee,thetragicfateofOedipusisinevitable,whichcanbeillustratedinthefollowing.GodisanindispensibleanddominantroleinancientGreek
4、tragedy.Itisknownthattheword“tragedy”means“thesongofgoats”inancientGreek,whichcomesfromthesacrificialriteofDionysus.Butwhytragedyhassocloserelationtothesacrificialratewhichisaskingforrichandfertile.SimonnotedthatonlytheprotagonistofthetragedytoexpiatethesinsofhumankindasascapegoatcouldmakesuretheG
5、odfeelpeople’sprayerandgivegoodweatherforcorpsandhealthforpeople(2000).ZhualsoclaimedthatancientGreektragedyismainlyabouttherelationbetweenGodandmankind,andifwearetryingtoappreciateitrationallywithoutthebackgroundofprimitivemythsandtheviewoflifeoffatalismwewillfailtograsptheessenceofit(1989).There
6、fore,thedestinyviewisreflectedbyGod’soracle,whichiscomplexandpowerful.InOedipustheKing,Oedipus’ssparentsgotanoraclefromGodthattheirsonwouldkillhisfatherandmarryhismother.ThisoracledecidedOedipus’sandhisfamily’sfate,whichisunavoidable.WhenLaius,Oedipusnaturalfather,gottheoracle,heorderedhisservantt
