4、widevarietyofgeologicformations.Thepaperalsodiscussesthedevelopmentofthisdatabaseandtheresultantempiricalperformancepredictionequationsderivedtoestimateroadheadercuttingratesandbitconsumption.INTRODUCTIONThemorewidespreaduseofthemechanicalexcavationsystemsisatrendsetbyincreasingpressureont
5、heminingandcivilconstructionindustriestomoveawayfromtheconventionaldrillandblastmethodstoimproveproductivityandreducecosts.Theadditionalbenefitsofmechanicalminingincludesignificantlyimprovedsafety,reducedgroundsupportrequirementsandfewerpersonnel.Theseadvantagescoupledwithrecentenhancement
6、sinmachineperformanceandreliabilityhaveresultedinmechanicalminerstakingalargershareoftherockexcavationmarket.Roadheadersarethemostwidelyusedundergroundpartial-faceexcavationmachinesforsofttomediumstrengthrocks,particularlyforsedimentaryrocks.Theyareusedforbothdevelopmentandproductioninsoft
