2、icsfromtheLaborDepartmentoftheHKASRGovernment,restaurantsaretheoccupationwiththeNo.2highestaccidentrateinHongKong(TheoccupationwiththeNo.1highestriskisconstruction).Amongthetotalabout10,000accidentsoccurredeachyearinHongKong’srestaurants,about1,400accidentsa

3、recausedbyslipping,trippingandfalling.Therefore,toreduceandavoidslip-and-fallduringwalkingisoneofmostcriticaloccupationalsafetyissues.TheobjectiveofthisFYDPistoinvestigatetechnicalmeasuressoastoreducetheslip-and-fallaccidentsoccurredinrestaurants’kitchensand

4、floors.Toachievethisobjective,theFYDPteamwillconductthefollowingtasks:(1)Tounderstandthemechanismsofwalker’sslip-and-fallduringwalkingonaflatfloororonaslope.Apartfromreviewingrelevantliterature,aWalkTestRig(WTR)willbedesigned,manufacturedandinstalled.Thistes

5、trigisabletomeasurethenormalforceandtangentialforceappliedonawalker’sfootwhilsthe(orshe)iswalkingatanormalpace,oratanacceleratedpace,orwithheavyloadonhands.Bycollectingandanalyzingthetestdata,theFYDPteamwillknowhowapersonmoveshis(orher)bodyandlegsduringwalki

6、ng,andknowwhatistheminimumcoefficientoffrictionrequiredforavoidingslippingduringwalking.(2)Topreciselymeasurethecoefficientoffrictionundertheworkingconditioninrestaurant’sfloororkitchen,aportablein-situFrictionTestDevice(FTD)willbedesigned,manufacturedandcal

7、ibrated.Arealshoe(neworworn)canbefixedonthetestdeviceandmadetoslipagainsttherealfloorsurfacesoastomeasurethecoefficientoffrictionbetweenthem.Variousfloorsurfacesunderadryconditionorbeingspoiledbywater,oilorwashingliquidwillbesystematicallytestedbyusingthisde

8、vicetosimulatetherealsituationinrestaurantsandtoassesstheriskofslippingandfalling.(3)Theanti-slippingblocksforpavingkitchen’sfloorandanti-slippingshoesforrestaurants’workerswillbeexperimentallys
